The Empire to Commonwealth Project

Unofficial Badges of the British Navy

Standardised ship badges came into effect in 1919.  Prior to this ships had 'unofficial' badges that they used.  Some ships subsequently didn't like their 'sealed patterns' (official badges) chosen for them after this date and so we have a host of post-1919 unofficial badges too - some still in use, though not recognised officially.  A number of  Badge Enthusiasts of Unofficial badges have very kindly supplied their collection to the Project:

 Dave Palmer

Dennis de la Mare

 Arthur

 Ron Marsden

 Mike Waugh
